They Won!

Drew Lachey and Cheryl Burke won "Dancing With the Stars" last night ;)! Yay! I'm super excited about that!
Stan, you're kidding about Ana and Jerry, right? I must admit that Jerry is the most improved, and you can't help but like him; however, Drew and Cheryl are definitely better!
And Alison, I googled Drew's name and found out that he's 29 (his birthday is 8/8/76).
Happy Monday to you all!

I'm in Love (in a shallow kind of way)

No, it's not what you're thinking. There's no mysterious guy that I haven't been telling you all about. I'm in a shallow kind of love, but nevertheless, it puts a smile on my face ;). A friend of mine is going on a cruise next week, and I offered to let her borrow some shoes. I went through my closet tonight and pulled out all my sandals. As I was taking them out, I tried on each pair just for fun. Since I recently painted my toes, the shoes looked extra cute on my feet. Before I knew it, a smile crept on my face, there was a bounce in my step, and a flutter in my heart - I fell in love. I can't wait for Spring to begin; I can pull out my Spring wardrobe and wear my sandals. I think this is how the term "Spring Fever" came in existence. I'm convinced a woman yearning for her Spring clothes and shoes came up with it. I must say, I feel a bit feverish.

Sweets Ease the Pain?

I heared on KSBJ this morning that when a child hurts themself, the parent should give them sweets because it helps the pain, and it gets their mind off of it. Well, as it turns out, I hit my knee on a dumbell while working out this morning. So, I thought, "Hum, I'm going to try the theory out and eat some chocolate." I tried a piece of assorted chocolate left over from Valentine's and it was yucky, so I threw it away. However, I decided to give it a second try. As I was making my yogurt parfait with strawberries, yogurt, and oats my eyes glazed at the Hershey syrup. In a moment of insanity, I poured the chocolate in my yogurt. Let me tell you, it was disgusting! It's kinda like when they made purple ketchup - you know it's not supposed to look like that, so you can't bring yourself to eat it. Well, I didn't want to waste my strawberries, so I made myself eat it. When I got finished, I started getting nauseated and almost lost it all. Fortunately, I have a strong stomach and it all stayed down, but I was a little late to work because of it. But the good news is, that it got my mind off my aching knee ;). Next time, I think I'll stick to a sucker.

Ligers do Exist

I came across an article on "Ask Yahoo" that said ligers really exist. I guess Napoleon knew what he was talking about after all!

Dear Yahoo!:
Do lion-tiger hybrids (ligers) really exist?
AlexAlbany,
New York

Dear Alex:
Lions and tigers and
ligers, oh my!
Your interest in curious cat hybrids was probably sparked by the film
Napoleon Dynamite. Jon Heder, the actor who played Napoleon, studied animation in college and drew his own imaginary liger for the movie. We were amazed to learn that ligers do actually exist. So do tigons, lepons, and jaglions. Don't believe us? Check out the photographs at Lordstar's Lair. Big cats generally stick to their own so these amazing hybrids don't occur naturally in the wild. Rather they're the product of captive breeding programs. They were much more common in the latter half of the 19th century, during the heyday of traveling circuses and sideshows. Technically, a liger is the offspring of a male lion and female tiger. They can weigh up to a 1,000 pounds and stretch 12 feet long. They can have both stripes and spots, and if the liger is male, even a small mane. How are ligers and such possible? Lions and tigers are very closely related. Much like leopards and panthers, they share the same genus -- Panthera -- meaning they have enough genetic material in common to make breeding possible.

Kirk Cameron and Me ;)

Okay, so I cropped the top photo, but I think it looks good ;). Saturday, Nathan, James, Janet and I went to a benefit dinner in Dallas for Way of the Master. And while we were there, we had to get a picture with Kirk Cameron and Ray Comfort! (Laurie, we missed you!) They've started a radio program and are trying to raise support for it. It's in Dallas already, so let's pray it comes to Houston soon. Check out their website if you get a chance: www.wayofthemaster.com. You can listen to the radio show on-line. It's a great evangelisic tool; I encourage you to look into it if you haven't already.

Thy Shalt Not Lie

Another topic of discussion this week has been lying. We mentioned it in hometeams Wednesday and again this morning in Bible study. I pose the question, "When, if ever, is it okay to lie?" I really don't have a firm answer on this. Is there such a thing as "situational ethics" or should we always adhere to "absolute ethics"? Two examples in the Bible come to mind:
1) Shiphrah and Puah, the midwives in Exodus 1 that did not kill the Hebrew babies. Pharoah commanded all Hebrew baby boys to be put to death. Shiphrah and Puah, however, disobeyed Pharoah and let the babies live. When asked, they lied and said the Hebrew women had the babies before they got there. In Exodus 1:20-21 it says, "So God was kind to the midwives and the people increased and became more numerous. And because the midwives feared God, He gave them families of their own."
2) Rahab in Joshua 2 and 6 and Hebrews 11:31. Rahab lied to hide the two spies when she was questioned. Because of her faith in the Lord, she and her family were saved when Jericho was destroyed.
So, did these ladies do the right thing by lying? Should we always tell the truth and trust the Lord will handle the situation even if it means our life and possibly others? Hopefully, we'll never be in that situation.

Date to Save?

Here lately, "missionary dating" has been a topic of discussion - three just this week. I was emailed a link about this very thing Monday: www.datetosave.com. I thought it was a joke at first, but this girl was serious. She even posted "Ten Dating Rules":

1. If he tells your that you are hot...Tell him God made you hot.

2. If he wants to hold your hand...Give him a Bible.

3. If he tries to get closer...Tell him the Holy Spirit is wooing him.

4. If he asks to pay for dinner...Remind him that Jesus also paid a debt He did not owe!

5. If he reaches his arm around you...Tell him that nobody will ever be as close to you as Jesus is.(or ask him if you instead could "lay hands" on him in prayer)

6. If he tries to kiss you...Remind him that a kiss killed your Savior.(and you're not ready to "speak in tongues")

7. If he asks to come inside...Ask him if he has asked Jesus to come inside his heart.

8. If he tells you he loves you...Tell him that Jesus loves him.

9. If he gets angry that you won't put out...Clarify to him that W.W.J.D. does NOT mean "Who would Jesus Do."

10. After you dump him...Tell him that Jesus Christ will never leave or forsake him.

So, is anyone up for club hopping this weekend to find some "hot heathens" to date? (You know I'm kidding, right?)

At a Creative Standstill

So it has taken me forever to get this blog up and going. I'm almost computer illiterate, so it has taken me a while to get things the way I want them to look. So now my mind is frozen and I can't think of a thing to write, but I thought it necessary to have a first blog. More to come...
